This is a really big deal for me, and I think that all of you would be very proud. On Saturday or Sunday, I cut my leg, and it was sort of bad (nothing that a bandaid and Neosporin wouldnt fix). I wanted to get some Neosporin-like product because I didnt bring any.
So I went to die Apotheke (pharmacy) to see if they had any. The pharmacy is a little different because you cant just go in and get what you want. You have to ask the pharmacist for what you need. I was a little nervous, but I didnt want my cut to get infected, so I sucked it up and went into the store with my friend Kate.
I was able to ask the pharmacist for the antibiotic creme, and I bought it without any trouble!!! :) So I guess that means that I can speak and use German now. Get excited. I know I am.
Anyone from Fraus class reading this should study abroad. German is a great language, and Germany is a great country. And you are all well-prepared to come here. If you have any questions about what it is like living here, comment, and I will try to answer them.
I feel so comfortable in Mayen. It is like my second home. I really think that I never want to come home. I wish that I didnt have to leave at the end of June. I am trying to focus on what little time I have here while I have it. I love, love, love Germany.
This weekend, I am going to Munich with my friend Kate. We booked our hostel, but we are not actually sure we will be able to get there.
One strange thing that I have noticed about Germany is that the milk is room temperature, and the cartons are rectangular. They dont come in gallon jugs. It tastes like creme, but our Oma buys 1,5% fettarme (low-fat) milk, so it cant be like creme in the USA. AND for breakfast this morning, I had johgurt (yogurt) with vanilla beans in it. So tasty.
And to be honest, everything tastes better without preservatives. The food is so much healthier. I am not looking forward to returning to American food that can last for weeks on end... perhaps years. I will also miss Wellness Flakes. They are kind of like Wheaties only better. Maybe I will bring some home.
The Euro looks like Monopoly money, and I really like using 1 and 2 euro coins. I will miss that when I come home.
I dont reall miss anything about the USA yet, but I think I might miss Taco Bell soon.
